Position Overview:
We are seeking a Field Operations Supervisor / Farm Technician III to join our staff on Grand Bahama. This role works closely with Husbandry, Science, Life Support Systems and Tourism teams to support safe and efficient field-based operations. This position is responsible for supervising daily field activities, maintaining high operational and dive safety standards, coordinating vessel operations, supporting restoration activities, and leading field teams in both marine and land-based settings. The successful candidate will serve as an operational team member capable of leading by example while maintaining strong organisational and technical standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Operations & Team Leadership:
- Lead daily field operations including coral nursery maintenance, monitoring, outplanting and restoration activities.
- Supervise and coordinate small field teams during marine operations.
- Assist with scheduling, task allocation and operational logistics for field activities.
- Ensure field tasks are completed efficiently, safely and to Coral Vita standards.
- Support onboarding and mentoring of junior technicians and interns.
- Promote a positive, accountable and team-oriented work culture.
Dive Safety & Marine Operations:
- Serve as a key point of contact for dive safety and operational readiness.
- Ensure all dive operations comply with established safety protocols and standards.
- Conduct pre-dive briefings, risk assessments and equipment safety checks.
- Maintain dive logs, safety records and operational documentation.
- Operate and oversee vessel activities including transport of staff, equipment and coral materials.
- Coordinate vessel loading/unloading, fuel management and routine vessel readiness checks.
- Monitor weather and sea conditions to support safe marine operations.
Coral Restoration & Scientific Support:
- Conduct in-situ coral nursery maintenance and monitoring activities.
- Support coral outplanting, coral collection and reef restoration projects.
- Collect accurate scientific data relating to coral growth, survival and reef conditions.
- Utilize monitoring equipment including PAR meters, HOBO loggers and other field instrumentation.
- Assist with site assessments and pre-outplant evaluations.
- Support field-based surveys and post-processing of collected data.
- Routine husbandry tasks concerning coral within the land-based farm to ensure survival and limit mortality. These tasks also extend to the in-situ portion of production to ensure that corals are ready for outplant.
- Use of advanced technology methods to record and report coral growth rates and mortality numbers within the farm and field.
- Complete understanding and ability to fully operate the farm management system in all of its applications.
Equipment & Infrastructure Maintenance:
- Assist with maintenance of field infrastructure including nurseries, moorings, tools and vessels.
- Ensure field gear, dive equipment and safety equipment remain operational and properly maintained.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate equipment or supply needs.
- Support implementation of preventative maintenance procedures.
Outreach & Education:
- Support educational tours, outreach events and visiting stakeholders when required.
- Represent Coral Vita professionally during field visits and collaborative projects.
- Promote environmental stewardship and reef conservation messaging.
Other Duties:
- Support cross-departmental operations when required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
- Stay up to date with current coral farming practices, marine conservation techniques and emerging technologies.
- Complete facility training manual.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Degree, diploma or equivalent experience in Marine Biology, Environmental Science, Aquaculture or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in marine operations, coral restoration, aquaculture or related field work preferred.
- Demonstrated experience leading small teams in field-based environments.
- Experience operating vessels and coordinating marine logistics strongly preferred.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of coral reef ecosystems and marine field operations. Region specific knowledge strongly preferred.
- Highly competent diver with excellent situational awareness and water confidence. Professional certification strongly preferred.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound operational decisions in dynamic environments.
- Experience with scientific data collection and environmental monitoring equipment.
- Comfortable working in physically demanding marine environments.
Certifications:
- Rescue Diver certification minimum (Divemaster or higher strongly preferred).
- Current CPR / First Aid / Oxygen Administration certifications.
- Recognised Captain’s License strongly preferred.
- Valid driver’s license.
Working Environment:
- Frequent work in marine and offshore environments.
- Ability to lift and move equipment, operate vessels and work in varying sea conditions.
- Combination of field work, diving, vessel operations and regular land-based operational support.
